Taurine is a conditionally essential, sulfur-containing amino acid found in the tissues of most animal species. Thorne Research Taurine  is not incorporated into proteins, but is found free in many tissues. Taurine is involved in a number of physiological processes, including bile acid formation for fat digestion, fluid regulation, detoxification of environmental toxins, regulation of cellular calcium, and regulation of nerve excitability. The liver combines bile acids with taurine, which results in increased cholesterol solubility and excretion. Taurine is the most abundant amino acid in the heart.
